Three Victoria teens were arrested early Monday morning after a burglary and police standoff.

Officers responded to Siesta Restaurant in the 2500 block of Houston Highway about 2 a.m. and discovered the building had been burglarized, according to the police report.

When they entered the building, they found Rafael Rodriguez Sanchez, 19, of Victoria, hiding behind a table and chairs.

Sanchez fled the building, ran into a nearby wooded area, and hid in a tractor bucket for nearly an hour while police surrounded the area.

Officers also arrested John Anthony Lara, 19, and Clifford Carl Tillmon, 19, on suspicion of burglary of a building and engaging in organized criminal activity. The two were acting as lookouts for Sanchez when police arrived, according to the police report.

Sanchez finally emerged and turned himself in about 3 a.m.

Police discovered about $500 cash taken from the restaurant, a hammer and a 12-inch knife near the area Sanchez was hiding.

He later confessed to the burglary and was arrested on suspicion of burglary of a building, evading arrest, unlicensed carrying of a weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity.

  • I am still wondering where the Stakeout is?

Searching the surrounding area for a suspect who fled is not a stakeout.

A stakeout is where police watch a person or location in advance of a crime based on a tip a crime will occur or in persuant to gaining information for an ongoing investigation.

Had police set up undercover across from the Siesta Restaurant based on a tip that someone was going to burglarize it, THAT would have been a stakeout.

  • Are you kidding me Joe888???? If they need money for their families then they need to get a job! The owners of Siesta are trying to make money for thier families too! What's "BULL" about it is the people who work HARD for thier money and put all thier effort into providing for thier loved ones and then some lowlife...lazy loser goes in and takes it from them. I hope they spend time in jail.
