PORT LAVACA - Marshall Marine has received an award from the U.S. Commerce Association for the best of local business in the boat dealer category.

The business manufactures boats and will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary, so the award comes at a good time, said owner Norman Marshall.

"It makes us feel good," Marshall said. "We've worked hard for it."

Numerous businesses throughout the U.S. are selected for the award, according to the USCA's news release.

Winners are chosen based on information that is gathered by the association and third parties.

The 2009 award focused on the quality of what the business created rather than the quantity.

At Marshall Marine, bay boats are designed with 100 percent fiberglass, meaning they will last longer, Marshall said.

The business' Marshall 286 is the largest bay boat manufactured on the Texas Coast.

The award was something that was unexpected, Marshall said.

The business will hold an open house celebration in October for its 10-year anniversary as well as the recent award, however a date has not been set.
