The Victoria City-County Health Department and its sister organization, the Crossroads Public Health District, inspect places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.
In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.
Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.

Times Market, 1749 W. Austin in Port Lavaca. Demerits: 10. Insufficient labeling of food. Two facility and equipment violations.
Times Market No. 105, 312 E. Travis in Port Lavaca. Demerits: 7. Insufficient labeling of food. One facility and equipment violation.
Weaver's Grocery, 1107 W. Austin in Port Lavaca. Demerits: 6. Two facility and equipment violations.
HJM, 605 N. Commerce in Port Lavaca; Jackson Roosevelt No. 1 and 2, 1512 Jackson St. in Port Lavaca; Chaparral Market, 701 Blyth in Victoria; Fairfield Inn, 7502 N. Navarro St. in Victoria; Rowland Elementary School, 2706 Leary Lane in Victoria; Smith Elementary School, 2901 Erwin in Victoria; and Vickers Elementary School, 102 Northgate in Victoria. Demerits: 0.
Re-inspections
TA Travel Center, 802 E. York in Ganado. Inspected Aug. 25 with 46 demerits. Re-inspected Sept. 1 and Sept. 18. All violations have been corrected.

September 29, 2009 at 8:55 a.m.Here's a good one,went into the Churchs on Rio Grande one day and the person tossing the chicken around in the flour had no gloves on and a band-aid flopping around while running her hands through the flour, believe me I like chicken but I will never go into that place again to eat......
