GOLIAD - The Goliad City Council meets in an emergency session at 6 p.m. Tuesday to consider a proposal from the county commissioners to increase payment for fire service to $25,000 annually.

The Goliad County Commissioners Court had originally proposed paying the city $10,000 for fire calls outside the city limits. The city council, during its next meeting, passed a resolution to stop fire calls outside the city limits.

On Monday, commissioners approved the 2009-10 budget that included $25,000 to the city for fire service. The city had asked for more than $50,000 to continue fire service in the county. The city's volunteer fire department is the closest responder to a large portion of southern and western Goliad County.

Volunteer fire departments are located in Weesatche, Weeser-Ander, Schroeder and Fannin, all north or northeast of the city of Goliad.

The meeting will be in council chambers, 152 W. End St.
