Stray bullet strikes woman as she drives down street

Police gather evidence at a home on Oaklawn Street believed to be involved in a Monday evening drive-by shooting.

One woman was wounded after being hit by a stray bullet on Monday evening.

A woman was driving her black Saturn Ion near Lova Street, when a bullet from a shooting on Oaklawn Street hit her.

The police department would not release details of the incident and neighbors gave conflicting reports of what happened.

Police Chief Bruce Ure said the woman "sustained a very significant eye injury from flying glass."

He emphasized that the woman was an "innocent bystander."

One neighborhood man, who would not give his name for fear of retaliation, said two young men were arguing in the 3100 block of Oaklawn when some sort of disagreement occurred.

Subsequently, a shooting took place.

Meanwhile, another neighbor, who also chose to remain anonymous, said a vehicle with T-bone shaped rims that frequently visits the house did a drive-by shooting at the home Oaklawn, prompting a person in the house to fire back.

The shooting victim drove to her home on Morningside Street where police investigated her vehicle, and emergency crews took her to a local hospital.

It is unknown which hospital she was taken to.

The shooting remained under investigation.
