- 1 John 4:8

Sharon Fisher, my wife and partner in ministry, says this about God's love: "He created me by love. He saved me in love. He sustains me to show love. He has eternity for me because of love. That's God. The divine love nature of God flows into the entire makeup of that person. You cannot love God or anyone else without this God kind of love. Real Christianity is the God of love flowing in you and through to Him and others."

Matthew 22:37-40: "Jesus said unto him. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind. And this is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." The God kind of love is always self-sacrificing.

1 Corinthians 13:408 states this self-sacrificing love never gets impatient, never gets jealous, never boasts, never gets conceited, never gets rude, discourteous or unmannerly, never gets selfish, never gets irritated, touchy or resentful, never thinks an unkind thought, pays no attention to a suffered wrong, never is happy with sin or injustice.

The God kind of love is always kind, always happy in truth, always gracious, overlooking faults in others. Always confident in the Word, believing the best in others, always strong in faith, always long suffering, always victorious.

The God kind of love, His nature in your spirit never worries, never criticizes, murmurs or complains, never gets discouraged, always covers with silence.

Now, the question comes to mind, this is impossible to do. No, with God, all things are possible to him that believe. As we grow as Christians the God kind of love matures in our daily lives. We experience the life of Jesus "love" as we yield to His life in ours. The God kind of love brings folks to Jesus.

The Rev. John Fisher is pastor of First Baptist Church in Point Comfort.
