Helping Hands: Friends of the Library - Victoria Chapter

Everyone needs friends, and the Victoria Public Library has them in the Friends of the Library. The group holds fundraisers to help the library cover expenses for such things as remodeling, furniture upgrades, reading programs, kids' summer programs and more.

HISTORY:

Founded locally in 1970

AREAS SERVED:

City of Victoria

SERVICES PROVIDED:

Raises money through book sales for library materials, i.e. books, videos, compact discs.

Supports library staff for continuing education opportunities and professional meetings.

Funds travel expenses to bring in job applicants.

Provides supplies and party favors for the Summer Reading Program.

Provides Victoria Public Library shirts for library staff.

Purchases software for library computers.

Funds special programs such as Victoria Reads! and the Thursday Film Series.

$49,500

GREATEST NEEDS:

Members, monetary donations, donations for the book sales and customers at the book sales.

All volunteer, no paid staff.
