A man died Sunday evening after being shot near the 2200 block of East North Street.

The incident occurred about 9 p.m. in a mobile home subdivision, said Lt. Pat Aitchison with the Victoria Police Department.

Police did not identify the victim, who was found shot and lying outside a trailer home. He was taken by ambulance to Citizens Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police were still on the scene after 11 p.m. Sunday talking with witnesses.

"It scares me," Joaquina Ayala said in Spanish about the shooting. She and her family returned home after an ambulance already was on the scene.

She said she and her husband have lived in the subdivision four years and described the place as peaceful.

The neighborhood has no street lights, and some homes appeared to be without electricity.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at 361-572-4200. No further information was available at press time.
