Jaguars prep for AII tournament

The University of Houston-Victoria baseball team travels to Jackson, Tenn., to defend their Association of Independent Institutions Conference Baseball Championship next week.

The Jaguars are the tournaments fourth seed and take on third seeded Cal State -San Marcos May 5 at 3 p.m..

The AII tournament field includes host and top seed Lambuth University, second seeded Thomas University, fifth-seeded LSU-Alexandria and sixth seeded Vorhees University .

The double-elimination tournament will be played May 5-8 at Pringles Park.

Last season the Jaguars opened the AII Tournament with a 8-6 win over Lambuth and a 20-4 rout of LSU-Alexandria, advancing to the Championship round.

The Jaguars dropped the tournaments championship round game one to Lambuth 16-11, but bounced back against the Eagles in game two 6-2 to win the tournament championship.

After stumbling out of the gate UHV won 26 of their final 36 game. UHV has won at least 27 games the last three years under head coach Terry Puhl.

The tournament champion earns a birth in the NAIA National Championship May 18-21.
