  • Pat B is right. Write tickets to jackholes that use the center lane to merge, speed in school zones, speed in the park, run lights, etc. The police department could do a better job of generating some of the $$ in their budget.

  • PatB..."If the police department would ticket peopel for this violation, this would be a great source of revenue for a while."

Careful there, Pat. You just used the dreaded "revenue" word talking about the cops. You're gonna be breanded a hater of the cops now because you wrote the truth.

  • like it or not Victoria is growing and with that growth comes some growing pains. in this instance some people are upset because they can't turn left across a 7 lane highway. maybe at the present time you don't think the traffic is high enough to warrant the medians. perhaps you're opinion is correct, perhaps the opinion of traffic engineers at TXDOT are correct. either way you have to agree that in the future the traffic will be too high. regardless of when, the cost to construct the medians will be more than the $1.29 million in 2006. saving lives and saving money.

i see that some of the opposed views are some of the same people who argue the city and county waste tax dollars. do you agree that this will actually save us, the taxpayers, more money in the long run?

  • I am a safe driver, good record, native Victorian

the medians are pointless, waste of time,

    and unsafe,

I have run over them so many times due to the low visibility

    of them~

  • I am a big believer in the medians. They shoud be on the entire street from Rio Grande to past Wallyworld.
I also wish that people would stop breaking the law by using the "Left turn only" lane as a "merge" lane. If the police department would ticket peopel for this violation, this would be a great source of revenue for a while. I'm really hoping that people would stop this practice.

  • The medians help mediate an ACCIDENT! That's about it. POOR, POOR planning and design! And YES ( JackDeuce) - this city desperately needs zoning. My street for starters , Mesquite Ln! I guess it will take a huge wreck where someone gets killed or a kid getting hit by a car that thinks they can go 50 in a 30...All day everyday, that's all it is...I'm just waiting for someone to be speeding so fast and loose control and slam into someones house. It's gotten close on SEVERAL occasions. They already slam into PARKED cars and run up into peoples yard, mine being one of them on several occasion!

WAKE UP GUYS, how many more people need to get in wrecks and hurt or killed for you to see we need better streets as well as better layouts of the streets.

  • It is quite accurate to say that medians reduce the numbers and severity of traffic accidents. But I want to know who decides where "breaks" in the medians are going to occur.

Please don't ask me the street name, because I have absolutely no idea; however, in the median in front of Hobby Lobby/Big Lots is a break where you can cross and get over to the Valero/Burger King. Have you (or PD) seen the people who pull from the Hobby Lobby/Big Lots parking lot, realize "Oh my goodness, I guess there is actually traffic coming from the north. Now I guess I'll just SIT HERE AND BLOCK 2 LANES OF NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC WITH MY BIG (insert vehicle type here)!" They are blocking people from turning in the actual median turning lanes, blocking traffic from traveling in up to two northbound lanes of traffic...they just sit there like it is their God-given right to be there. I am surprised there have not been more accidents/fatalities at that location. Those of you who do that are, I must say it outright, dumb. Go to the traffic light people! There's one at either end of the parking lot. The City of Victoria needs to close that opening in the median!
