If Jack Huddleston's projections are correct, Port Lavaca will be hosting the largest "Sportsman's Night Out" in Ducks Unlimited history tonight.
A little background for those who aren't familiar with Ducks Unlimited or Sportsman's Night Out: Ducks Unlimited is likely the world's most well-known non-profit for wetlands and waterfowl conservation. They work to raise money to purchase wetlands in order to preserve the waterfowl native to those areas.
Sportsman's Night Out is an event, including a raffle, that raises money for Ducks Unlimited.
Included in Port Lavaca's raffle will be a variety of hunting and fishing merchandise totalling about $15,000. It includes guns, deer feeders, fishing reels and more, said Huddleston, president of the Port Lavaca chapter.
He said the largest Sportsman's Night Out the organization has ever seen included about 240 people. Huddleston said he's expecting about 400 people at Friday's event at Bauer Community Center.
He said Ducks Unlimited is such a big deal in Port Lavaca because almost everyone on the coast is interested in hunting and fishing.
"Lavaca is kind of small, but we have a lot of plants and people working down here," he said. "Just about everyone hunts and fishes."
Friday's event is from 6-8:30 p.m. and is $25 per couple including the meal.
