Local groups taking part in Join Hands Day
Local groups are taking part in Join Hands Day projects benefiting local nonprofit organizations.
On Saturday, members of Catholic Life Insurance branch 51, Boy Scout Troop No. 364 and a group of Cub Scouts from Bloomington will give time at the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent.
The volunteers are expected to bag beans, moving them from barrels into two-pound packages that are then labeled and sealed.
Also for Join Hands Day, the local Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas, Lodge No. 97, will make cash and gift card donations to the Victoria County Senior Citizens Center and to Adopt-A-Pet.
America's Fraternal Benefit Societies are the sponsors of Join Hands Day. Fraternal benefit societies began nearly 150 years ago, and today have 9.3 million members in 37,000 local chapters.
Join Hands Day is designed to bring young people and adults together, and begin the process of developing understanding and trust across the generations, according to the organization's website.
