Traffic lights in front of the new high schools will go into flash-mode operation on Thursday.
The lights will flash yellow onto the main roads of U.S. Highway 87 and Loop 463 and flash red on adjacent side streets, said Randy Bena, area engineer with Texas Department of Transportation.
"The flash mode is to really just alert drivers in the area that there's a new signal in place and very soon they will be put into operation," he said.
The lights were installed Saturday and are continuing to be prepared for complete operation Aug. 19 when teachers begin in-service school days.
Vehicles will not have to stop for the flashing yellow lights, but must stop at the flashing red signals on the side streets.
"We want to make sure that it works on a regular mode so people can get used to what that's like," Bena said.
Pedestrian signals are not planned for either location.
