The announcement that Caterpillar is building a manufacturing plant in Victoria is good news for the local HOLT CAT dealership.

"We're excited. It's great to bring another plant into Texas," said Howard Hicks, vice president of marketing in the HOLT CAT San Antonio office, citing Caterpillar locations in Seguin and Waco. "It will have a very positive impact on us and our customers."

Hicks said the proximity of the plant will be a huge benefit for the Victoria HOLT CAT retailer.

"It will help us out on the availability of equipment. It won't cost as much to bring the equipment in," he said, noting that equipment sold in Victoria sometimes is shipped in from overseas.

"The Victoria store is a very successful store," Hicks said. "It's been there since the 1960s. There have been some ups and downs mostly related to the oil industry, but it's been a good producer."

The Victoria location, 203 Holt Road, does about $20 million in product sales, parts sales and service sales per year, Hicks said.

Hicks said the Victoria store's customers include those in the petroleum industry, agriculture, chemical plants and contractors.

HOLT CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealer in the country, with 20 locations in Texas.
