Representatives from the Victoria Convention and Visitors Bureau brought back more than their boots from a conference last week.
They also brought back recognition.
The group's "Bring Your Boots" campaign took first place honors for both advertising and tourism promotion in the judge's category, as well as the "crowd pleaser" category, where contest entrants voted on what they liked best, at the Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus' annual conference.
The bureau's website also won second place in the crowd pleaser category at the Lubbock event.
The wins are exciting news for the city and the convention and visitors bureau, said Bridgette Bise, the bureau's executive director.
"Winning at the state level is both an honor and another way for this community to gain awareness to other organizations all around the state," she said. "Our office has been working very hard on this campaign and we are seeing traction in both visitor traffic and campaign recall."
Victoria's third-quarter hotel/motel tax numbers increased 17.5 percent, according to state data released last week, and some of that increase can be attributed to heightened awareness of Victoria from around the region.
The convention and visitors bureau's year one campaign goals included raising awareness of Victoria as a weekend travel destination and winning an award at the statewide convention, Bise said.
The Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus boasts 250 members. Its annual convention offers a place for bureaus to showcase marketing products, tourism ideas and websites.
