Joyce Hyak, former executive director of the local Head Start program, is no longer with the organization.
The staffing change came Wednesday at 5:01 p.m., said Evelyn Burleson, board president for Advocates for Children and Families, Inc., which oversees the child development program.
"We really have no comment about that," Burleson said Friday. "We just don't have an executive director any more."
The federal government placed Advocates for Children and Families, Inc. under a 30-day funding suspension on Aug. 11.
The suspension, the result of a report issued in late May by the Office of the Inspector General, came because of various financial issues.
A letter notifying the organization of the suspension listed several factors, including using grant funds awarded to pay previous years' expenses, lacking an effective financial management system and maintaining questionable arrangements with an accounting consultant and auditor.

I heard Hyak was fired by the ACFI Head Start board.
The ACFI board president should be held accountable for not firing
Hyak a long time ago. I don't think that ACFI will get Head Start back.
Someone needs to do a story and let us know why Head Start is suddenly kicking students out because their parents are unemployed.
August 21, 2010 at 2:35 p.m.Was she suspended or terminated?
There is a difference. There was a former Board President who brought the problems to the attention of the Regional Office and the ACFI Board but the executive director serving at that time and the present Board President schemed together and booted this person off of the board. Isn't there a term limit for board officers? The current President has been on the board ever since I started working for Head Start in 2002 and was still president when I left. Somebody needs to investigate the president.
August 21, 2010 at 1:01 p.m.I am so tired of hearing that our tax dollars are spent in a way they are not supposed to be and then we are kept in the dark like we don't have any business knowing the details, and nobody ever gets fired, that again makes government different from the real world of life!
