PORT LAVACA - After two years as executive director of the Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce, Lacey Ekberg has resigned from her post.
Her last day is Sept. 17.
Ekberg and her fiance will relocate to Hot Springs Village, a gated community about 10 miles outside of Hot Springs. There, she will take over the chamber and handle the village's marketing.
Change is exciting but it will be difficult to leave Port Lavaca, she said, explaining many good people call the city home.
She said she's proud of various projects the community began since her arrival, including the branding and marketing campaign, Flip Flop Festival and billboards.
"It's kind of been my baby for two years, so letting go is hard," she said.
Tina Crow, who has worked as the chamber's administrative assistant for more than a year, will step in as interim director.
Plans are still in the works regarding positions at the chamber and the direction it will move in, Crow said.
"I'm very excited," she said. "We are going to kind of feel some things out and maybe redirect some things. We're taking it slow."
Ekberg did a lot during her two years with the chamber and had virtually nothing to start with, she said. Although Crow said she's looking forward to her new role, she said she's sorry to see her manager leave.
"I think people are definitely sad because Lacey has done so much for the chamber," she said. "I know she will be missed."
