ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Environmental groups are taking Alaska state regulators to court in a dispute over cruise ship wastewater permits.

Two groups, Earth Island Institute and Friends of the Earth, filed a notice of intent this week to appeal a state decision in Superior Court in Juneau.

The Anchorage Daily News reports the groups say the state Department of Environmental Conservation is not requiring cruise ships to used the best-available treatment technology. The department says the groups failed to prove the treatment system they prefer is the best choice for all the ships.
