MINNEAPOLIS - Percy Harvin played 14 snaps, caught two passes, bounced up from a vicious hit over the middle and declared his latest bout with migraines officially behind him.
All in all, it couldn't have come at a better time for a Vikings receiving corps in desperate need of good news after No. 1 receiver Sidney Rice underwent hip surgery on Monday.
Harvin wouldn't give details, but said he "did a (medical) test" Friday night and "found some things we thought was the main cause" of the most recent migraines that contributed to him missing all but parts of six practices and the team's first two preseason games.
"We have a great plan (for dealing with the migraines)," said Harvin, who caught two passes for 30 yards in Saturday's 24-13 preseason victory over the Seattle Seahawks at the Metrodome. "We're all feeling confident. I know we've said that a couple of times now. But I think this time we found what the main cause was. I'm not saying I won't ever get a headache again, but hopefully we can slow it down a little bit."
Harvin left training camp after the second practice because of the death of his grandmother. Migraines that have troubled him since he was 10 resurfaced. He also talked Saturday about having to cope with the death of a former University of Florida teammate. John Curtis IV, 24, who helped the Gators win the 2007 national title, jumped to his death in Bellevue, Wash., in early August.
"That was tough," Harvin said.
Harvin, who hadn't practiced since collapsing on the field at Winter Park on Aug. 19, started in a three-receiver set and caught a pass over the middle from Brett Favre for a 34-yard gain on the Vikings' first offensive snap. He was targeted three more times, catching one pass for a 4-yard loss. On his final snap, Harvin was flattened by safety Earl Thomas on a third-down pass breakup over the middle early in the third quarter.
"I was actually looking forward to getting hit tonight," Harvin said. "I look forward to getting back to work next week and making a push for the opener."
Javon Walker, signed off the street on Tuesday, played eight uneventful snaps with Favre, who threw him three uncatchable passes. Walker, however, played another 11 snaps without Favre and caught two passes, including the 25-yard go-ahead touchdown on fourth-and-4 with 7:09 left. He jumped and reached over cornerback Walter Thurmond to make the tough catch in the end zone.
Meanwhile, Greg Camarillo, who joined the Vikings for one practice this week following a trade with the Dolphins, played eight snaps with Favre and grabbed all four of the catchable passes thrown to him for 47 yards.
Bernard Berrian, technically the No. 1 receiver with Rice out, was targeted just four times. He caught one ball for 8 yards.
