Jaguars drop regular season opener

BROWNSVILLE - Sasha Rodriguez scored two goals Friday to help pace No. 9 William Carey to a 5-0 victory over the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars in a women's soccer match in Brownsville.

Rodriguez put William Carey up for good in the 22nd minute of play with her first goal as the Crusaders would go on to take a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Crusaders (1-0) would add three more goals in the second half to collect the victory.

Sarah Salidvar (Houston) and Maria Pina (Mission) were in goal for the Jaguars.

Marissa Cervantez (Temple) and Laura Torres (Richmond) each had shots on goal for the Jaguars (0-1) in the contest.

The Jaguars will be back in action Sunday when they face UT-Brownsville in a 6 p.m. contest in Brownsville.
