Victoria man sentenced to prison for beating stepchildren

A Victoria man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for aggravated assault after a Monday morning trial.

Jesse Rodriguez, Jr., 32, was sentenced to 12 years in state prison for two counts of aggravated assault against two of his stepchildren.

He was also sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of injury to a child.

The hearing was held in Judge Robert Cheshire's courtroom.

The victims testified that Rodriguez was angry with them for being at a friend's house, even though he had given them permission to be there.

He beat both boys, aged 14 and 10, while in his truck, with his fists. He then stopped at a local bar and pulled the boys out of the truck and repeatedly kicked and punched both boys on their heads and torso.

The beating continued when they arrived at home.

Assistant District Attorney Elí Garza prosecuted the case.

    I believe that this poor excuse of a human being should have gotten a lot more than twelve years.. What I have gathered in this case is these children had no one to protect them from the harm of this individual. Im sure this was not the only time he'd put his hands on them. I feel for them as the mother "allegedly" was in court testifying on his behalf and trying to get him what, a lighter sentence!?!!?

    I don't give a damn WHAT those kids did, they're CHILDREN...they do not deserve to get beat for ANYTHING! Punching? Kicking? That's ridiculous. Thank GOD he got serious jail time for this.

    Stepfather punched and kicked two stepchildren should do two years in prison. Two kids went over friends house stepfather got mad. But if two kids trying hit stepfather should just crap there hand or hold two kids to they stop. Stepfather should not hit two kids.

    Even if there is more to the story, it doesn't matter. No child should be beat like that for ANY reason!

    What people fail to ask themselves was, did the punishment fit the crime in the boys case?......NO! In the stepfathers case yes it did! No child should be beat like that just for going to a friends house....maybe we are not getting the whole story who knows.
