The new University of Houston - Victoria freshmen class brings a boost of faculty to the School of Arts and Sciences, where many students will take their core curriculum classes.

The curriculum is a set of required classes all freshmen must take regardless of their major.

The school added about 15 new positions over the last three years and hired an additional seven professors from diverse backgrounds for the fall semester.

"They're outstanding teachers, outstanding scholars," said Jeffrey Di Leo, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.

The most recent faculty hires cost an additional $275,000 and will be instructing about 30 additional classes within the school.
