  • Happened to me at WalMart. I found a wallet that had $650 cash hidden in one of the pockets. I was able to track the owner by calling the bank on a blank check. They called the owner and gave them my number. He was so glad to have it back. He was so sweet - sent me a gift card to a local restaurant. Glad to see that there are other honest people in the world.

  • The same thing happened to me at HEB Plus. I found a very thin wallet in one of those small shopping carts and immediately opened it looking for identification. I found some cash, and two large checks that were written out and signed, but no I.D. I wound up calling the phone number on one of the checks to start tracking down the owner. I was lucky, the phone number belonged the owners aunt who gave me her nieces phone number in Victoria. The owner had just left HEB Plus and hadn't noticed her wallet was gone. She met me at the entrance fifteen minutes later. She wanted to give me a reward, but I told her to just pay it forward and do something nice for a stranger. I do wonder how many people just take the cash and toss the wallet.
