The VISD that rear-ended a Nissan Altima waits for the go-ahead from the Victoria Police Department on Thursday. None of the 17 elementary school children on board were injured, and the bus continued its route at 3:50 p.m.

A Victoria school bus carrying 17 elementary school children was involved in a wreck at 3:23 p.m. Tuesday.

No one was injured in the collision, which occurred at the intersection of Zac Lentz Parkway and Navarro Street.

A Nissan Altima driven by Cheryl Burris was eastbound on the frontage road, preparing to turn right onto Navarro at the yield sign, when she was struck from the rear by the bus, said Officer Herschel Buck, with the Victoria Police Department.

The bus was driven by Clara Cortez, Buck said.

At least one parent came to the scene to pick up her child, but by 3:50 p.m., the bus left to finish its route.

Diane Boyett, spokeswoman for Victoria schools, said the school's policy is to notify all parents if any child on a bus is injured or if the kids are transferred to another bus.

"The bus was still driveable, and there was no one injured, so the bus went ahead and finished the route," she said.

No citations were issued.
