The Victoria Generals will feature a local presence in the upcoming season.
The Generals announced Friday the signing of Memorial graduate Trent Wagner for the 2011 Texas Collegiate League season.
Wagner is a sophomore at Texas A&M-Kingsville and he is expected to fill the void left by Memorial graduate Mark Hudson and Andy Russell, who will be seniors and are not eligible to return for the upcoming season.
Wagner started 40 games during his freshman season with the Javelinas, mostly in right field. Wagner hit .315 with eight doubles, one triple, two home runs and had 25 RBIs, while stealing 15 bases.
"Trent is a great pickup for us," Generals general manager Blake Koch said in a statement. "He is a legitimate five-tool player that still has a lot of upside and will only get better as he grows into his body."
Wagner was an all-district and all-area selection during his senior year at Memorial.
Season tickets for the Generals go on sale Dec. 15. For information, go to www.VictoriaGenerals.com.
