I would say Pearl Harbor, only because it was the deciding factor of the U.S. joining the war.
I'm going to go with Pearl Harbor because my grandfathers fought in that war. So many soldiers died, and it was a change in our culture from that day forward.
9/11. It impacted everything - the way we live, the way we fly, the way we travel. Although Hawaii was our soil, I think New York is such an American icon.
9/11 was more significant because I was around when that happened, and I wasn't alive for Pearl Harbor.

Pearl Harbor MAY have been a surprise, but we as a nation had been contributing to the war effort for a number of years before the attack, so it probably should not of been to big of a surprise. Maybe Vet 43 could correct me on that if necessary.
9/11 is more significant to me because I felt personally warned by the Lord several months in advance of the terrorist attacks; In the summer months leading up to the attack I continudally seem to hear an inner voice constantly repeating the same thing over & over; the voice said this will be the last normal summer that we will ever have, if we are even able to finish the summer out THINGS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.
I would walk out on the shop flour at work at 6:30 in the morning & these words would be the first thing to me greet on a daily basis.
I began to tell my fellow brothers from church about this continuous message , I also told my family about it as well as my common friends & acquaintances.
Then it hit, I very much remember the strange & sober atmosphere all day at work while we by radio we were continually up dated as the towers came down etc.
The next days headlines read; THINGS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN. I felt that these events were an answer to the prediction that was given me.
At times I have to cross an international border, believe me when I say things were indeed different from then on, same thing with airports etc .
I know this nation will be destroyed but it still brings me to tears to see it happening before my very eyes.
After the tragedy of 9/11 good thing began to happen; divorce rate dropped, abortion rates dropped etc even country singers began to change there normal song lyrics of getting drunk & dancing to things that had some eternal value.
I believe we have fully entered into what is known as the beginning of sorrows, 9/11 should be considered a huge wake up call to us all.
December 24, 2011 at 12:36 p.m.911 is a natural progression of world history. It is in fact a consequence of WWII and WWII was a consequence of WWI. The conveyor belt of history has not stopped or taken any detours.
December 9, 2010 at 3:22 p.m.I am always stunned to here how many people think they know what "history" will say about an event. Really. Think about this in a larger context. American history is a very large subject. If a member of your family was on the Arizona on in one of the first responders to the Twin Towers you might have a differant perspective.
December 9, 2010 at 11:52 a.m.Oh come on shiskabobbi, Bush didn't "get" us into that war. Read your history..."that war" has been going on since the 6th Century and later led to the Crusades of the 11th Century. Mohamedans vs Christians and vice versa.
Pearl Harbor, 9-11, ( both equally horrible and devastating) are just extensions of the first act of agression... when Cain killed Able.
December 9, 2010 at 11:20 a.m.I agree that the bombing of Pearl Harbor was the worst attack commited against us for one simple reason. The top dogs in the government knew when and THAT it was going to happen but let it proceed due to economic reasons. They knew that we could win the war and even though it was going to result in the death of millions of people, in their mind of being powerful and rich was worth it. This was the same reasoning bush got us into Iraq.
December 9, 2010 at 10:53 a.m.Okay, that last statement (in the article, not the comments) is so apt for our young people today. So self-centered. If it does not revolve around them, it must not have been very important.
But I agree with familyman. They are of equal value. I also was not around for Pearl Harbor, but have visited the memorial in Hawaii, and that was absolutely the most moving experience in my entire 47 years of life. There are no words to describe it in my vocabulary.
Both the events, while on the radar of the government in one way or another, blind-sided the American people; totally devastated us. Made us do things to other citizens of our country we would never have otherwise done. In WWII, we put our own citizens in what were simply glorified prisons (citizens of Japanese descent), for nothing except being of Japanese descent). No proof or indication of anything wrong. After 9/11, if a citizens even had a look of being of Middle Easter descent, they were hated with a frenzy, attacked, killed, and more, just because of their appearance/religious preference. Both of these events turned our country into a nation of irrational behavior against our own citizens.
December 9, 2010 at 8:19 a.m.I should say that it is a dumb dumb question. Pearl Harbor impacted more lifes of course and led our country into a war. But those folks who are younger, don't remember the war, lost no one in it of course will say 9-11, especially if their lives were changed by the loss of a loved one. Both are sad sad events and it is as I say a dumb dumb question.
December 9, 2010 at 7:21 a.m.I believe they are of equal value. They are two different kinds of war. Pearl harbor was a regular war where there are troops on both sides in uniforms using rules to fight by. The 9/11 war is different. Now we don't know what the enemy looks like or where their main bases are to attack. They have people ready to fight us on our own soil. In WWII and other previous wars we knew what to expect. In the 9/11 war we are always looking around the corner for the enemy when they could be standing right next to us all the time. It is hard to compare the two wars due to the way they are being fought. I don't think the 9/11 war will end anytime soon. There will always be that one faction out there that hates the U.S. and wants us dead and will try anything to complete their missions.
December 9, 2010 at 7:21 a.m.BEWARE everyone. Stay on your toes and keep an eye on everything. If you see something out of the ordinary then tell someone in control. You may just stop a bombing! The deaths of many. Stay alert America. This is a new era of war. Now we are all troops in this one, just that were are not all in uniform.
