The University of Houston-Victoria will hold a come-and-go open house for Jaguar Hall, its first residence hall. The event is open to the community and will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

IF YOU GO WHAT: Come-and-go open house for Jaguar Hall, the University of Houston-Victoria residence hall.

WHERE: 2705 Houston Highway

WHEN: A Victoria Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting also will take place Tuesday at 4 p.m. The open house will last until 7 p.m.

The public is invited to come see how Victoria's university students live. An open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday to celebrate the University of Houston-Victoria's first residence hall.

Area residents may attend the come-and-go open house to get a look inside Jaguar Hall, 2705 Houston Highway. A Victoria Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting also will take place at 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Jaguar Hall's resident advisers will give guided tours, which will include student rooms, the new "11:59" student lounge, dining hall and common area.

After Texas Gov. Rick Perry signed a bill in the summer of 2009 that would allow UHV to add underclassmen in fall 2010, the university began planning housing for the new students. UHV purchased the Inn Place Hotel, a former Holiday Inn, a year ago and began renovating it for dorms. Students moved into Jaguar Hall on Sept. 18.

The university is planning on another residence hall that will open for the fall 2012 semester.
