Gulf Bend looks to implement Basic Center Program for needy youth

Gulf Bend is implementing a Basic Center Program, which is designed to provide youth with emergency shelter, food, clothing, counseling and referrals for health care.
The program will be housed at a facility on Marilyn Drive that has 13 beds for boys and girls under 18-years-old.
Criteria for the program is youth who are at risk of separation from the family or have a history of running away.
Gulf Bend received requests by the youth of needing such assistance in 2010.
The purpose of the program is to also reunite youth with their families or seek alternative placements.
The center is in need of household items like furniture, appliances, dishes and linens, decorative items, television sets and other items. Outdoor items such as a barbecue pit, picnic table and chairs are needed.
The program will begin on Jan. 1.
