I have a question about College Central at Victoria College. I appreciate that I can check my financial aid and pay tuition at College Central instead of going to several different offices, but whenever I'm there it takes forever because the lines are long. Is there a better time to come when lines aren't so long?

Do you know about the Pirate Portal? You probably already know that you can access your student e-mail and online classes through the Portal, but you can also access your financial aid information and manage your payments in the Portal as well.

On the VC home page, on the right-hand side is a button that will take you to the Pirate Portal. You will have access to the Portal after you complete the admissions process and your application has been entered.

Once you've entered. you have access to general information and most importantly, your own student services tab.

Under the Student Services tab are a number of "channels." These are topic-specific areas that provide convenient access to information, applications, or other Web resources you may need. Down the left-hand side are channels that include My Account, Make/Manage Payments, Financial Aid Requirements, Financial Aid Awards and Financial Aid Information. You can login to find out what kind of financial aid is available, then apply for financial aid and get a customized list of all what you'll need to apply successfully.

Financial aid awards will be applied to your account automatically until the fall 2011 semester. Starting fall 2011, you'll go into the financial aid awards channel in the Portal to accept them before they can be applied. After all awards have been applied, you can check your account and ensure that all your fees are paid in full. If you still have a balance, you can submit payment using the Portal as well.

Under the Academic Services tab is a Registration Tools channel. Those channels give you the ability to look up classes, check your registration status, add or drop classes and change class options. If you qualify for Web registration, this is where you will go during registration times to enroll in your classes. If you need advising prior to registration, you can get contact information via the Academic Support Services channel listed on the right-hand side.

If you're currently enrolled, you can also check your grades by going to the My Courses tab and then look down the left-hand side for the Student Grades channel.

In addition to your administrative tabs in the Pirate Portal, you can also create your own tab and load in channels customized to fit your needs and interests.
