Victoria police officers chased a man on foot Monday afternoon as he fled from a traffic stop.

Aaron Flores, 21, was stopped in the 2300 block of North Ben Jordan Street, in front of a restaurant on suspicion of "failing to stop at proper place," Sgt. Mark Jameson said.

When Flores drove into the restaurant parking lot, he ran from police officers, Jameson said.

"He had drugs on him, that's why he ran," Jameson said. "It was a substance believed to be cocaine."

He ran to apartments behind the restaurant and was arrested behind the business, the officer said.

Flores was arrested on suspicion of evading arrest and detention with prior convictions, no insurance, no drivers license and possession of a controlled substance," Jameson said.
