The new Cuero police chief will be named Monday.

City manager Raymie Zella said the two finalists are Jay Lewis, a detective with the Port Lavaca Police Department and former chief deputy with the DeWitt County Sheriff's Office and Luis Soler, a corporal with the Austin Police Department.

"I have made my choice and have come to an agreement on salary, but we are waiting results of the mandatory drug test and physical, which is required for all new hires," Zella said.

The new chief will start to work Jan. 10 and be sworn in at the Jan. 11 council meeting. He will replace Chris Hernandez who resigned in September.
