A 7-year-old girl was bit by a dog in the 1000 block of Pine Street around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Robert Hunt said his daughter was riding her bike with a group of other kids near their home when his neighbor's dog, a mutt, bit her left ankle.
Hunt took the 7-year-old to DeTar Hospital Navarro, where she was given 11 stitches and had a draining tube inserted into the wound, he said.
"I'm not against dogs. What I'm against is the dog biting my daughter," Hunt said. "And he will bite again."
The dog's owner, M.J. King, called the Victoria Police Department, who sent Victoria Animal Control to the scene, King said.
The dog will be quarantined for 10 days, at which time King can pay a fine to bring the dog back home, both Hunt and King said.
The dog was current on its shots.
King said she has owned the dog for eight years and never experienced any problems before this incident.
"We're going to do our part. That's our dog," King said, adding that she plans on helping out with the girl's medical bills.
King said she plans on completely enclosing a fence that now sits in her front yard and may even move to a neighborhood with fewer kids.
Hunt said he thinks the dog should be further evaluated and receive professional training.
"They're going to quarantine the dog, charge a fine, then everything goes back to how it was," he said. "That's not right."
Calls to Victoria Animal Control were not returned Thursday.
