The special Victoria school board meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Education Center, 102 Profit Drive.

Football and volleyball coaches for the two new Victoria high schools are expected to be named at a special board meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

"It is my understanding that we will be receiving recommendations for head football coaches and volleyball coaches, both in a closed meeting," said Lou Svetlik, board president. "Any action taken will be done in open session."

The board is also expected to approve the purchase of football and volleyball uniforms for next year.

The administration is recommending that a contract be awarded to Team Sports of Texas, based on price, quality of fabric and quality of construction, said Diane Boyett, communications specialist.

The board must approve the bid Thursday to begin ordering the uniforms as soon as possible, Boyett said.

"The suppliers are telling us that if we are going to get the delivery this summer, we need to get them ordered this month before the regular board meeting on Feb. 18."

Total cost of football and volleyball uniforms for the two high schools and Harold Cade Middle School is just over $77,000, Boyett said.

In other business, the board is expected to appoint a director to the Victoria Central Appraisal District board of directors.

The board will also take action on contracts for HVAC upgrades at Howell Middle School, and a contract for installing fiber optic lines.

  • i totally agree with viperdad. these kids are left to find scholarships for themselves. the coaches do not do anything to get theses kids recruited. some much talent here in this town. it is a shame that the coaches on take an interest in themselves and not the kids that sacrifice for them

  • I saw that too viperdad...these mhs coaches are awful if it wasn't for select teams no victoria kid would be seen boy or girl.

question????? with Daddy Finley stepping down from his unproduction position of AD....what does he do at school now???? No duties, No teaching, No helping get scholarships for boys and girls----HE WAS AD for all these years. Quitter, hate it for the east titans football. I hope Ralphie is taking notes.......Really what does Finley do all day?

  • Hey School Board, when you consider the coaches for the new schools, consider how many of our Viper Players this year got signed today to play college football. Several I know for a fact have been working hard to get recognized by colleges, and to my knowledge, none have received a deal as of today. Ask O.J. Hughes, Preston Turner, Mark Carrion, Chase Snapp, or some of the others "stand-outs" how much help the current staff has given them. Isn't that part of a coaches responsibility to help the players that have given thousands of hours of their life to a program?? Does anyone in the community really think that these players were not good enough to play in college?? Why are players from the smaller schools around us getting offers to play college football, and ours are not?? Makes me wonder???

  • Does it really matter about the uniform design THAT much right now? I would be worried if they were playing without helmets, but I doubt thats going to happen!

You can always change a design. I think that since the West school is Red & Black w/Silver that they should have RED RAGE across their home uniforms. How does that sound tstorm! :)

  • Team Sports of Texas submitted samples to VISD, but once the bid is approved, the newly hired coaches will help design the uniforms.

  • I would imagine that price will be a factor, right? Aren't bids put out for uniforms like everything else in VISD?

  • i heard a coordinator that used to be here in the 90's is getting the west job......i hope this is rumor...he has done nothing as a head coach and his personality will be horrible with the kind of kids here, he needs to stay up north with his type of kids.

  • How on earth does a school district order uniforms without input from Head Coaches? I would imagine that the two new Head Coaches will want to design and choose color schemes, brands, etc. for their schools. You never know, East may want Nike, and West may like the color schemes offered by Under Armour? What's up with VISD? That's not how any team in the state does things.

  • MzUnderstood,
Ray Walden is re-taking his seat with the board until the end of his term in May. There will be 7 board members again.

  • How can the board even meet without the required number of members? Is anything they even decide legal, without filling the position for the vacant seat?

Why isn't the vacant seat number one on the agenda?
