Victoria West has its first head football and head volleyball coach.
Leonard McAngus was named the new school’s head football coach and Courtney Carter was named the head volleyball coach by a unanimous vote of the Victoria school district board of trustees as a special meeting Thursday.
McAngus comes to West from Justin Northwest where he is currently campus services for athletics. He was previously the athletic director and head football coach at Justin Northwest and Gonzales. McAngus previously coached in Victoria as the offensive coordinator at Victoria High under Mark Reeve.
Carter, a Cuero native, has been the head volleyball coach at Wharton the past two seasons. She has also coached at Waelder and Luling.
Memorial head football coach Mickey Finley and Memorial head volleyball coach Jamye Pauley will coach their respective sports at Victoria East when the schools open in August.

February 4, 2010 at 7:21 p.m.I hope Victoria look for the stars in their decisions of selection. This city does not need another situation like Victoria High and Stroman. We need a positive and strong program for both schools. We need strong intelligent leaders that can generate talent, if the talent did not walk out onto his or her practice field.(Hodie was good for that in baseball). We need coaches that can walk the hall ways and encourage young men and women that they can be something special in the field of play. These elements are excellent for the self esteem of the whole program. I am sure Escalona can relate to the needs of our programs. I hope both schools are winners,and Mamasboy, I hope you are wrong about your theory.
i hope all coaches will have open gym this summer. The student athletes will need to play together a lot and get into condition. Band hall night as well. Maybe day and night activities. The participation is there but dont keep the gyms or fields locked. Very fustrationing. You only hurting your programs.
February 4, 2010 at 7:15 p.m.he didnt coach in '09, why? resigned to not be reassigned....we get someone noone wanted....yeah i played in the 90's, wasnt treated like a good ol boy by him, i earned everything i got and it was no thanks to him. why bring someone back, besides the good ol boy system....stud, please.....he wasnt wanted where the bigs boys play < metroplex, so we get another reject!!

February 4, 2010 at 5:25 p.m.This guy is a great coach! Cant believe visd got one right! Stepbrother whats your deal did coach mac make you run extra bleachers in high school? Prob i remember guys like you didn't want to do work. But when it came time to ride the bus and reap the benefits of being on a winning team everything was all good! Or maybe your kid played for him and couldn't cut it. Either way you are not the man to get facts from.

Seems to be a GOOD HIRE for the west.
When does he report for work??
When will the kids get to meet him??
When can they get stated to work????
We have lost 2-1/2" months to others who have had a coach & a program in place.
