The Winter Olympics, which begin Friday on NBC, can be a springboard to fame and fortune. They might even lead to a guest-starring role in a TV series, as these five Olympic figure skaters can attest:
Dorothy Hamill on "Diff'rent Strokes" (1983) — The gold medalist sees great promise in Kimberly (Dana Plato) as a competitive figure skater. But Kimberly is even more astounded when Drummond (Conrad Bain) agrees to let her leave home to train full time with Hamill in Los Angeles.
Nancy Kerrigan on "Boy Meets World" (1995) — The Olympian gives a dream skating lesson to Eric (Will Friedle).
Kristi Yamaguchi on "Everybody Loves Raymond" (1997) — She played herself in an episode in which Ray (Ray Romano) brought home a stray bulldog that reminds him of the dog he gave up as a boy because of his allergies.
Michelle Kwan on "Sabrina: The Teenage Witch" (1999) — Kwan played a student in Sabrina's (Melissa Joan Hart) creative writing class.
Tara Lipinski on "7th Heaven" (2003) — In a two-part episode, she played Christine, a classmate of Lucy's (Beverley Mitchell). Lucy offers her a temporary place to live, unaware that she's hiding a big secret.
