You might not be able to make it to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, but you can celebrate it locally. Schroeder Dance Hall is hosting its annual Mardi Gras celebration and gumbo cook-off on Feb. 13, according to a news release.

Featuring live music, raffles and all the gumbo you can eat, all proceeds from the event benefit Hospice of South Texas. Performances include the Guadalupe Surfers, the Mike Dean Band, Buster Jiggs, Cedryl Ballou and Zydeco Trendsetters. The Coastal Conservation Association Mid Coast Chapter will also have their 2010 boat raffle, according to the news release.

The Schroeder Hall grounds will open to gumbo cookers at 8 a.m. and to the public at noon. Admission for the entire event is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 10-15 and free for children 9 and younger. Parking is available for $3 for vehicles and $10 for campers and RV's. Samples of gumbo will also be available from the gumbo cookers for a small donation.

Winners of the cook-off will be announced at 5 p.m.
