CUERO - A 17-year-old Nordheim man and another teenager were charged with four counts of cruelty to livestock in connection with the shooting death of a cow and a horse in DeWitt County.
The pair, arrested Tuesday, is also charged with wounding two more cows. The shootings took place in the western part of the county during the past several weeks, according to a news release from the DeWitt County Sheriff's Office.
Skyler Martinez posted $20,000 bail on Wednesday.
The juvenile, a 14-year-old boy, is in the Victoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
"We are expecting additional arrests as well as possibly additional charges," said DeWitt County Sheriff Jode Zavesky. "We understand that there may be more livestock that has been killed or wounded and not reported to us."
Cruelty to livestock is a state jail felony punishable by 180 days to two years in the state jail and up to a $10,000 fine.
The sheriff asked anyone who has had livestock shot in that area of the county to contact the sheriff's office at 361-275-5734.
