Victoria Police confiscate $920 in cash while conducting two drug busts Thursday night.

Police arrested five people in a Thursday night drug bust.

The bust was a collaboration between the Victoria Police Department's SWAT team and its special crimes unit.

"It was a well-orchestrated operation," said Police Chief Bruce Ure.

Using narcotics search warrants, Ure said, the teams conducted two searches:

At the 200 block of Avenue C and found 13 grams of black tar heroin, Xanax pills, and hydrocodone pills.

At an apartment at 2107 N. Ben Jordan St. and found 10 Ecstasy pills, cocaine, marijuana and $920 in cash.

Upon entry to the apartment on North Ben Jordan Street, Ure said, officers saw some of the residents scrambling to dispose of the drugs.

"We caught them midway in the act," said Ure, who described the amount of drugs confiscated as "average."

Ure said he hoped Thursday's busts would serve as a warning to others who engage in similar activity.

"We know we're not going to fix the drug problem. We recognize that, but what we do know is we are going to chip away at this one drug dealer at a time," he said. "Those who are dealing should be cautious because their time could be next. There are five people in jail today that can confirm this one-at a-time theory."
