CUERO - A carport where two vehicles were parked caught on fire Friday night, damaging them beyond repair.
The carport was about 50 feet from the home of Sue and Mark Doehrman, in the 1100 block of Farm-to-Market Road 236
The Victoria Fire Department, along with Mission Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Nursery Volunteer Fire Department Cuero Fire Department and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department, responded to the call at 9 p.m. The fire was put out within 20 minutes and contained to the carport.
One of the vehicles was Mark Doehrman's welding truck, which contained a $1,500 welding machine, his wife said.
Oxygen and acetylene tanks used for welding exploded as the fire was being extinguished.
Sue lost a 2010 Suburban, which she bought in February. She uses her suburban to do home visits as a nurse. The vehicle also contained nursing equipment.
The Doehrmans were eating dinner in Cuero when they received a call about the fire.
Sue said she was just grateful her house was spared.
"If it would have been my house, it would have been a disaster," she said.
