  • oh please lets protect that sports area NO ONE LIVES THERE! I read these comments of people talking trash about the residents of parkstone. Those people started out like everyone else and built their life up and have nice homes and want to keep it that way. How would anyone of you feel if someone came into your neighborhood and trashed it? How would you feel if someone burned your yard and harmed your animals? How would you feel if it were your parents or grandparents that were upset? If you think that its ok to put human life in danger instead of a tarp on a baseball field then you need help! Trash talking to these victims is wrong and what a low life coward would do. The city needs to re evaluate the situation and the residents that were affected by this needs to contact their attorney and see what their legal rights are. I feel sorry for them I would be very upset if that happened to my home.

  • holein1,

You are hysterical! Too, too funny!

I think that is very nice for you that you have been friends with Paco Buhler for 25 years. Since you have intimate personal knowledge of Buhler and his habits, please tell me which part of what I posted is incorrect? Does he not have 200 acres of land to sell to Victoria after he donates the first hundred?

I just HATE it when folks don't keep up. The Advocate busts its rump to provide this community with news, and then archives it for future reference! Go back and read about it for yourself.

If being CORRECT equates to being snarky, then so be it! But do not waltz in and tell me I am snarky when I said your BFF was going to benefit if the City buys his land. HE WILL! But if it is truly not about the money, then let's let him donate the whole 300 acres he wants the University to have.

    Snark out~

  • The fireworks were to bright, They hurt my eyes. I blame slick willy and his lapdogs !!!!!

    July 6, 2010 at 9:22 p.m.
  • You didn't step on mine.

Yes, you are quite snarky. Take a look at your comment history and it will tell the story.

I've known Paco Buhler for 25 years. He is one of the nicest, most generous, genuine men I have ever known. I think he honestly cares about his home town. To him, it's not about the money. He donated the land for the UHV campus.

  • holein1--

    Snarky? I don't think so.

Why does it matter if I know Buhler or not.? It's a fact that he has land for sale, and it's a fact if the City buys up a bunch of it, he stands to make a bunch of money. I do not believe he is selling it for $100.00 an acre, do you? 300 acres times $500.00 to $1000.00, if not even more, is a lot of moolah.

The way the City values purchases, I promise you it will be a sweet deal! I'd tap dance to the bank on a deal like that, but I seem to have misplaced my tap shoes.

I'll just ask--did I step on some toes?

    July 6, 2010 at 7:55 p.m.
  • "Buy up all of the land Buhler has for sale..." Edith you are a snarky little mess aren't you? Do you even know Paco Buhler?

  • My wife and I are moving to Victoria in September. It's good to see a vibrant city with people unafraid to voice an opinion. Our fireworks were different than yours this year. Gunplay and bombs. We are leaving our home in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico after three years because people are getting murdered for running for office and kidnapped for making a speech. Freedom of speech must include those who are completely opposed to your point of view. Pray for peace.

    July 6, 2010 at 6:48 p.m.
  • Why not have the fireworks at the airport....plenty of open spaces, not many planes to clog up the airways and the runway would be a fantastic place to set up the gril, let the kids run wild and cut loose. Parking a problem or traffic? Heck, might as well get used to dangerous intersections in this town...with those two new schools opening in a couple of months it's going to be like a game of Frogger.

    July 6, 2010 at 6:28 p.m.
  • Come people everyone knows in Victoria build something new like the Complex that cost lots of money and the city's gonna protect it with thier life give a couple of years they wont give a darn and move the fireworks display back to the community center and if it burns down oh well they will just overtax all us citizens again and built another new one and move the display back to the Mall this if funny all this fuzz I say the rich Northside needs to built a new project around the mall that way the city will protect it and move the diplay elsewhere as well.

    July 6, 2010 at 6:27 p.m.
  • Why did the Fire Marshal give the permits knowing Parkstone was not within the correct zone?

    July 6, 2010 at 5:48 p.m.
  • I'll tell you what, for those of you who think it was OK to have it at the mall, did not have to clean up the mess and did not have to spend an hour living in fear that your house, cars, or property were going to catch on fire. You did not have to deal with all the goofy people in cars that do not know the meaning of the privacy "other people's property"
BTW, there were a bunch of pigs that did go to the mall because as I drove through the parking lots yesterday, I couldn't believer the amount of trash that was still there. Didn't your parents teach you that you do not leave your trash for other people to pick up?
I'm pretty sure that the city would be held liable if anything were to happen to anyone, or anything, in the housing additions that the debris fell on. People have a right to be safe and secure on their own property and no city official has the right to take that away from them.
Isn't there a ban on fireworks in city limits? How do city officials get away with blowing up fireworks up on top of people's houses without getting a legal release first??

    July 6, 2010 at 2:46 p.m.
  • Didn't attend Victoria show this year because last year when we took our 4 and 5 year old children not only were people falling down drunk cussing to high heaven and being beyond rude some drunk wierdo decided he couldn't make it to the port-a-potty and proceeded to take care of business within 10 feet of my children.

We did drive to Yorktown for awesome music by Guadalupe Surfers equally awesome fireworks display and great bar-b-que and all in a kid friendly environment. It was well worth the trip.
    Way to go Yorktown!

    July 6, 2010 at 1:31 p.m.
  • People do not need to deal with it. I bet if this happen to u at your house u would be Complaint too. What i saw was that was not good that people were parking on the loop.

    July 6, 2010 at 12:17 p.m.
  • Were there fire trucks stationed around the fall zone? If the fall zone at the community center is the new ball field then, if I remember correctly, no houses are in danger as the closest houses are across a wide road. The fall zone here was directly in a neighborhood whose houses are on top of each other. If a fire did occur, it could wipe out multiple houses. The canvas at the ball field should be insured by the city, any damage would be covered. Would the city be liable for any damage to peoples homes caused by the fireworks? I don't believe 1 nights worth of entertainment for all should destroy the lives & property of a few. These people may have dodged a bullet this year, every year isn't this wet....the city should reconsider the location....Lone Tree Industrial Park is an excellent idea, there is nothing to burn down there.

  • It is a great ideal to have it at the mall. Better lighting to watch for your children, and others. And it is only once a year. I live in the country, most of my neighbors did fireworks, I always get fireworks afters in my yard. Do I complain, No, I just go out the next day, and pick up what fail into my yard, and throw it away. No biggie, I get a free show. LOL It's about our freedom, one day you may not be able to celerbrate so freely, so enjoy it while you can.

    July 6, 2010 at 10:27 a.m.
  • i agree with the majority of these comments. if you dont like the traffic you should have avoided the area for the one night that this was going on. Also everyone in this town does nothing but complain about the events in this town. i happen to like them because it brings the community together. Forth of July without fireworks would be pointless so i think everyone should enjoy the time our city gets together for such celebrated events....i know my 3yr old son and i do...

    July 6, 2010 at 10:07 a.m.
  • I myself live in Parkstone, we had to complaints. Actually it was nice to see VFD patrolling the subdivision to make sure there were no fires in the neighborhood. People just complain because they have nothing better to do. Traffic is everywhere and it's going to be everywhere reguardless of where you've put the fireworks show. Ive also attended the fireworks show when it was at the community center and yes, there was once again traffic and people seem to forget there are also people that live on that side of town that didnt ever complain. I think having it at the park was a great job!!!! and thanks for the great show.

    July 6, 2010 at 9:58 a.m.
  • Some people just need something to complain about. Well guess what..... this was it. I think alot more enjoyed it than didnt. Thanks again Victoria.

    July 6, 2010 at 9:49 a.m.
  • My family enjoyed the fireworks. It was a great way to spend the evening. Also, thanks Hartman Dist. for your gift!

    July 6, 2010 at 9:43 a.m.
  • imtiredofit - why do people in Victoria always complain about having nothing to do there? I'm (obviously) from Victoria and now live in a really small town. We go to Victoria for entertainment - Victoria is what you make of it. Have some pride and stop putting down your city.

    July 6, 2010 at 9:37 a.m.
  • come on people like the same stuff didnt happen at the other location,i think it was a good place for the fireworks and i hope its at the mall again next year.just clean up the mess and its done .why make a big deal about nonething.

    July 6, 2010 at 9:18 a.m.
  • Give me a break.......The whole town complains because there is nothing to do, but when there is you complain as well about the results. I live in Woodway and myself or my neibors would not complain if the display was at the the new West high school next year........We water our lawns to prevent fires and dry grass and our dogs come in the house when they are frightened....yes in the house we are not to good for that. So just shut up and enjoy the events. Thank you Hartman Distributing for putting up YOUR money and time for this event YEAR AFTER YEAR.

    July 6, 2010 at 9:17 a.m.
  • Come on people....these same problems occurred when it was at the other location.....the traffic was horrible....we would always just continue to sit in the truck and talk for another 30 minutes or so rather than try to fight the jam. As far as the people in the neighborhood; if there were large pieces of ash raining down on their homes like in the picture....i might have been a tad upset. However, I am sure that people in the houses around the Community Center location experienced the same thing. As far as scaring your dogs.....get a grip. Dogs were scared for miles away and anyone with any sense knows that when the fireworks are going to go off...get your pets inside or secured because they will be frightened. I think the location was great.....more paved parking and a great view from the mall parking lot.

    July 6, 2010 at 9:05 a.m.
  • "He said debris from the fireworks fell in his yard and caused a small fire. One of his dogs was so disturbed by the noise it vomited and another ran away in fear, he said."-----

teach the dog to vomit on small fires and...problem solved.

    July 6, 2010 at 8:21 a.m.
  • Why didn't they just have it in the lone tree business park? There's nothing else there...

May as well put it to use for something.

    July 6, 2010 at 8:08 a.m.
  • Well , all I have to say is you never saw so many fireworks at the Community Center.....what maybe 15 minutes, oh but not for the north side of town 30 minutes, just goes to show you who really matters, come on you morons, move it back to the Community Center and let everybody enjoy a 30 minute display next year....water down the da_n canopies.

    July 6, 2010 at 8:04 a.m.
  • Fireworks inside the town limits are okay if the town council or good old mayor says okay? Jiminvic hit the nail on the head, tinpot dictators. Jim, it should have been chamber pot.

    July 6, 2010 at 7:46 a.m.
  • Simple solution folks--

Let the City buy up all of Copperfield Village, Hearthstone and the entire Park Stone subdivision. Buy up all of the land Buhler has for sale and relocate them along the Airline Road extension to the airport the Mayor is determined to build for his legacy.

It will get the homes out of harm's way, it will provide a little more justification for the extension ("it was necessary to protect these folks") and Buhler tap dances all the way to the bank. It's a win-win-win deal!

    July 6, 2010 at 7:37 a.m.
  • It's simple really...you don't allow fireworks to go off over people's homes...no matter what the value of the home is.

I mean come on folks, it's a simple matter.

    July 6, 2010 at 7:24 a.m.
  • Grow up Victoria. No one in City Council, the Mayor's office or the city government gives a flying donut what you want or think. But you keep electing these tinpot dictators.
As long as the current, non caring, do what I tell you city council is in place you will have problems. Instead of crying about fireworks, get elected to the council and change things. Oh boo hoo, they scared my dog. Take break.

    July 6, 2010 at 6:40 a.m.
  • It's quite ignorant to do those kinds of fireworks over people's houses. There has to to be some place out of town that can be used.
As mentioned in another post. Jackson County does theirs way out of town and people do still drive the distance to go see it if they want to.

    July 6, 2010 at 1:56 a.m.
  • everything sdmusic just said i agree 101%

    July 6, 2010 at 12:42 a.m.
  • archie... so does that mean that we should keep the FW's celebration to south side of victoria, because there are cheaper homes and families with less income? how rude... i myself live out in the country and we had our own fireworks celebration our here. seems like the more that people complain, the city will eventually just pull the plug on the whole thing.... just saying...

    July 5, 2010 at 9:55 p.m.
  • I forgot about that prohibition, fatboy.

I know my kids are not happy about the ban on drinks brought in to the softball complex, not even a single Sonic cup with ice tea is allowed.

The concessionaire has too much control, perhaps? Or maybe it is her boyfriend that has too much control?

    July 5, 2010 at 9:49 p.m.
  • it was moved because you cant drink @ CC grounds anymore!!! Drive by and read the BLUE signs on the driveways.

so the Mall probably said ok but " no coolers" rflmao!!

    July 5, 2010 at 8:16 p.m.
  • I thought having it at the mall was great for viewing. I've never seen the fireworks so close up before. But traffic afterwards was a complete nightmare. It took 40 minutes to get out of the theater parking lot. And that's with the cops directing traffic.

    July 5, 2010 at 7:58 p.m.
  • it's all relative!

    July 5, 2010 at 7:40 p.m.
  • I am a fourth generation Victorian. The one thing I don't understand is why so many people complain about every event that goes on in Victoria. How is Victoria suppose to grow and be recognize when we have so much negative remarks about all our public events. We do not live in a perfect world were every activity will be to everyones liking. We need to start looking at the fact that Victoria is a city of over 60,000 and we have small towns around the Golden Crescent that are putting on Better shows like CueroTurkeyfest, and Yorktown Westerndays. It's time that we as Victorians want to start having these events and quick nick-picking them apart. My family and some close friends were at the Mall and we did enjoy the Music, Fireworks and just seeing all the community coming together for America's Birthday. I hope this is the start of more music, outdoor festivals, and future events. I know we have the Community center but its not sizeable anymore. Maybe it's time for Victoria to build a central location for these events. A place that would not effect residents, businesses and traffic. For an example a place like the new The Brackenridge Main Event Center, outside Edna, Texas, another small town that has a annual event, Texana Chili Spill.

    July 5, 2010 at 6:31 p.m.
  • “Doug Cochran, Victoria's director of parks and recreation, said he hadn't received any complaints. But he noted Monday was a city holiday and he hadn't been in the office.” I bet he’s got a bunch coming in tomorrow. Cochran should have anticipated complaints, the fall zone was a neighborhood! Was the City going to be responsible for someone’s fence or roof catching on fire?

“Cochran has said the event was moved to the Victoria Mall for better security, lighting, parking and to protect the $12 million Youth Sports Complex. "The Youth Sports Complex is in the fireworks fall zone and the canvas shading and roofing are at risk from falling fireworks." And the homes in Park Stone are not? What a bully!

What difference does it make how much the homes cost? Those are people’s homes! This attitude of entitlement by the City has got to stop. Spray the canvas with fire retardant and put a tin roof on the other. Some folks weren’t thinking when they went to spend that $12 million, were they?

I have a problem with a few dictating what the rest of us should endure for their pleasure. Unlike the ‘real’ rights we’ve been discussing on another thread, we do not have the right to have a fireworks show on the 4th of July. It’s a gift from Hartman Distributing.

    July 5, 2010 at 6 p.m.
  • It will be the end of the world for some poor kid or drunk adult who gets run over. This is dangerous. At the CC people weren't crusing the parking lots while unsupervised kids roamed around.

    How about the grand finale?

    July 5, 2010 at 5:46 p.m.
  • omg! its the end of the world!!! come on people, its a once a year event. Enjoy one of the few great shows victoria gives us.

    July 5, 2010 at 5:36 p.m.
  • calm down people lol

    July 5, 2010 at 5:25 p.m.
  • The only thing that I had a problem with last night has been occurring every year that I've attended the FW show. The lack of respect for others around you! The music levels, the loud voices, especially when the FW are going off. When my husband was in the Marines at Camp Lejeune in NC, you wouldn't dare speak much less play loud music while the FW show was in progress. People have NOT ONE BIT OF RESPECT FOR ANYTHING OR ANYBODY THESE DAYS!!! That's what bothers me, not so much where they do the show!

Society in itself has become such a selfish, disrespectful, self absorbing monster!!! And what's really scary, most just find it normal and live with it as if that's just the way it's supposed to be!!!! It really makes me VERY SAD!

    July 5, 2010 at 5:08 p.m.
  • Park Stone home are listed for over $130,000, so they aren't shanties by any means. That being said, whenever fireworks are set off in residential areas, fire hazards are part of the package. Too many people in private neighborhoods, with all that entails (trash left behind, parking problems, etc.) is another negative aspect of trying to entertain a town with gunpowder.

How about if we forget the fireworks display and put together a parade (during the daytime) with floats, flags, baton twilers, horses, etc. A small entry fee from all organizations represented with the money going to either pay for the extra police coverage or something like the Food Bank, Red Cross, etc. Those who wanted to participate by marching or watching could and the rest would be left in peace and quiet. There could be food vendors and those who have wares to sell, etc. Make it a real city supported event.

    July 5, 2010 at 5:07 p.m.
  • Come on people get real. This was the first time it was held in this area and you learn from the mistakes being made. Was there only one complaint from a Parkstone resident? A lot of this has to do with the direction of the wind with ash falling in that area. Lady if you left before the end how come so many people were leaving at the same time oh well you can not satisfy everyone there will always be some one that is not happy with the event. But from the looks of it there were lot more satisfied spectators than ones with beefs.

    July 5, 2010 at 5:05 p.m.
  • If you think Parkstone is rich, then you have more to worry about.

    July 5, 2010 at 4:43 p.m.
  • I really feel bad for those poor rich folks that live in Parkstone!

    July 5, 2010 at 4:34 p.m.
