WHERE TO BUY THE PHONE
Customers can preorder the DROID X. On Thursday, you can buy the phone, while supplies last, at the following Victoria locations:
VERIZON WIRELESS, 8706 N. Navarro St. Doors open at 12:01 a.m.
BEST BUY, in Victoria Mall, 7802 N. Navarro St. Doors open at 9 a.m.
One Victoria store will open at 12:01 a.m. Thursday as part of a much-hyped launch for fans of a new smartphone.
Motorola announced the release of its DROID X, which goes on sale less than a month after Apple's release of the iPhone 4.
"Everybody is asking for it," said B.J. Garza, who works at Victoria's North Navarro Street Verizon Wireless. "We hope to sell out the first day."
Verizon Wireless is service provider of the DROID X, which boasts a number of features other competitors do not.
According to Verizon, the phone in part offers:
3G Mobile HotSpot capabilities.
A 4.3-inch high-resolution screen for viewing movies and video.
An 8-megapixel camera, HD camcorder and HDMI connectivity to download, stream and share content.
Later this summer, customers can upgrade the phone, via a software update, with Android 2.2 and Adobe Flash Player 10.1.
The phone costs $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate, except at Best Buy - where customers receive an in-store rebate.
Expecting a rush, Victoria Verizon Wireless managers opt to open doors for the sale during the early morning hours on Thursday.
"People can start lining up whenever they want, but we won't start selling it until 12:01 a.m.," Garza said. "The first 20 people get a free charging dock."
