BRYAN - The Victoria Generals had a one run lead after the top of the first. It didn't last long.
Generals starter Blake Payne got roughed up early, lasting just two innings and allowing four earned runs on four hits in a 6-1 loss to the Brazos Valley Bombers, who take over first place in the Texas Collegiate League.
Michael Niemann had the one highlight at the plate for Victoria, leading off the game with a triple and eventually scoring on a Lawton Langford ground out. The Generals mustered just one other hit off of Bombers pitcher Brennan Easterling, who pitched eight innings and walked five while striking out three. Michael Hilliard pitched the final inning for the Bombers to close out the game.
Victoria falls to 17-11, while the Bombers improve to 21-13. The Generals return home Sunday to play North Texas at 7 p.m.
