YORKTOWN - Texas novelist Beth Wiseman will be the guest speaker at 7 p.m. Thursday at Yorktown Public Library.

Wiseman, a former newspaper reporter and humor columnist, is the author of the "Daughters of the Promise" series set among the Amish. Her work has made the Association for Christian Retail and the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association best-selling lists.

"Writing about the Amish lifestyle within fictional love stories has been a wonderful experience," Wiseman wrote on her website.

"These very private people might dress differently, avoid the use of electricity and modern conveniences, but they are just like everyone else," she said. "They love, hurt, have daily challenges and struggles and strive to be the best they can be."

The fifth book in the "Daughters of the Promise" series is scheduled to be released in April. A new series, "The Land of Canaan Novels," debuts in November.

Wiseman will be available to autograph copies of her book and will have a limited number available for sale.
