Saturday

First Baptist Church in Smiley will host a free Southern Gospel and Country Gospel Singing. The event will feature numerous local and out-of-town groups. Bring your guitar or other instrument and share your talent. A pot luck dinner will be at 6 p.m. in the church's fellowship hall prior to the performance. The singing begins at 7 p.m.

A Charismatic Conference and Mass in memory of Mrs. Lucia R. Ornelas will be at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Port Lavaca. Registration will be from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. at St. Jude Hall, across from the church. The conference will begin at 9 a.m. A donation of $5 for the conference will include a continental breakfast; lunch and drink will be an additional $7 per person. Spiritual teachings will be provided by the Rev. Alberto Lilo-Luemba of Brownsville Diocese, and Deacon Jesus Perez of Our Lady of Sorrows. Music by Voces de Cristo. No one under 15 allowed. Coleto Baptist Church will hold a Blessing of the Bikes

at 11 a.m. This motorcycle ministry service will include a children's ministry service as well. Bring your motorcycle, bicycle or tricycle for the blessing. There will be a potluck meal following morning service.

Bethlehem Baptist Church will host a barbecue chicken fundraiser for the Usher Auxiliary. The dinners will be sold from 11 a.m. until sold out. Plates are $7 each and consist of chicken with trimmings and dessert.

Aug. 1

Our Lady of Sorrows will hold a Jamaica at the Victoria Community Center, 2905 E. North St. from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Stan DeBoe.
