EDNA - The Industrial school district and its four campuses were ranked exemplary Friday by the Texas Education Agency.
Last year, the district was ranked exemplary, but only one campus, Industrial West Elementary, received an exemplary status. The other three ranked recognized.
"Success is more about your backbone than your wishbone," said Superintendent Tony Williams.
Supportive parents, teachers and students are the reason the district does so well, he said.
"The kids out here, you ask them to jump 10 feet, and they jump 12," he said. "The parents want 14."
Math and science at Industrial High School went from the 70 and 80 percentages to straight 90s.
The Ganado school district had a recognized high school and junior high and an exemplary elementary school.
The district has been recognized two years in a row.
"We are very proud of the accomplishments by our students, teachers, and administrators," Superintendent Jeff Black said. "All of our ratings were recognized or higher due the one-on-one efforts put forth by all our employees helping the students who needed the most help."
For the third year in a row, the Edna school district has been ranked academically acceptable.
The high school was recognized and Meadie Pumphrey Junior High and Edna Elementary School were academically acceptable.
Superintendent Bob Wells said the state's standards are a moving target.
"We did fine but we could also do better," he said. "All our scores went up but the state's standards also went up."
The district has followed a 37-page district improvement plan, he said
"It's a multifaceted, multipronged approach to improve student outcomes," he said.
