familyman...what's your point? Do you think that because Ms. Hillyer may have used poor judgement that she should not have reported the crime? Do you think that she should not have been upset when the police....in Ure's own words...did not do their best work and the case slipped through the cracks?
When you say that Ms. Hillyer is the one at fault for leaving her wallet exposed are you saying that the person who stole her purse was entitled to steal her purse because of her carelessness?
I hope that you are never a victim of a crime that the police do a self-admitted shoddy job of investigating. Because I am sure that some know-it-all will say the crime was somehow your fault and could have been prevented.

A theft incident also happened to my elderly mom at Walmart several months again, also by a hispanic woman. She had her purse sitting on top of an ice chest in her trunk while she was unloading her basket. When she turned to the basket to get more of her groceries out of the basket someone took her purse off the top of the ice chest. She went inside the store to report it. When she was walking toward the office, she saw a woman in the store that had her purse on her arm. She told the people in the office, they confronted the woman about the purse and she said she had found the purse in the parking lot and was going to turn it in, ya right. Anyway, the store really did nothing about it and said the cameras in the parking lot weren't working at that time.

Many a times I have been approached by a person, that seemed to try to distract me from my belongings. I quickly place my hand onto my purse, and hang onto it. And never let go. When they see your onto them, or look an approaching person in the eye, that seems to be up to no good, . They usually back off. If you suspect that someone is going around in a store trying to steal others belongings, make an employee aware of it. A wallet is more tempting to steal, a purse is not so much. Cause it's not an easy small item usually. And look out for your fellow shoppers, if you see someone that looks like they are going to take somebodies belongs. And that person is not paying attention to their items. Say something to them, like, I noticed you left your wallet, purse unattended, and there are people that will take advantage of that. Then that will make them think. Maybe they will keep an eye on their things then. It is so sad that people steal from others. What happened to hard workers, that believe in working hard to get ahead in life? Not the stealers for sure. Be safe.

Ms. Hillyer was the one at fault for leaving her wallet exposed.
" Hillyer said her wallet, which was lying in the top of the cart, had been taken."
That is like leaving the keys in the car and the doors open with a sign saying STEAL ME PLEASE!
