As Americans gather on the Fourth of July to celebrate the nation's birthday, the staff at Sun Orthodontix is making sure the servicemen and women overseas aren't forgotten.

Through Saturday, the business is accepting nominations of local active-duty soldiers serving overseas. Five soldiers will be randomly selected to receive care packages, office manager Amy Charles said.

The staff will purchase items to send and cover the costs of shipment for the packages, as well as serve as the drop-off point for donated items.

"We just wanted to do something extremely nice for our service people and let them know that we're thankful for them and here for them," Charles said.

The families of the five servicemen and women selected will be notified, and the company is encouraging their family and friends to drop off personal items for the care package, such as pictures, letters and home videos.

The deadline to nominate a soldier or to drop off a donation is Saturday.

"There is nothing more meaningful than receiving a care package from home and we want to make sure that these packages reach their destinations by the July 4 holiday," Charles added.
