  • As some one who has seen the kids in these classes for a few years, let me tell you that there are a lot of kids who attend these classes throughout the summer and positive results are obvious.

Kids are exercising, both their bodies and attention spans.

Self respect and respecting others is taught and practiced.

Self discipline is taught and practiced.

Accomplishments is where true self-esteem comes from and kids with healthy self-esteem don't need a bunch of thugs to make them feel better.

Law Enforcement officers are seen in a different light: One of caring, demanding, and not ones who are in the middle of domestic calls, etc.

A lot of these kids don't have positive male adults in their lives and when they are in these classes they are treated with respect and care.

People are always demanding that someone teach the young people to become respectful and disciplined and HERE you go that is what this program is about.

For those of you who think that at the end of the program you have children who will take this skills and become adults who have "lethal" weapons and use them against society....I challenge you to go and observe the classes a few times. You will see children who benefit from the discipline that is taught, not skills for Killing.

  • GOP dude--

What are you talking about? Why should the participants be ashamed? "...leeching funds intended for children in need"? What in the world do you mean? How do you know these kids are not at risk?

This is a program that has been very successful in many places, not just Victoria. It is open to all kids in the target age group.

  • THIS PROGRAM IS ALLOWING KIDS TO BUILD UP THEIR SELF-ESTEEM AND A RAPPORT WITH OFFICERS. INSTEAD OF RUNNING AROUND AND GETTING INTO TROUBLE. IT WOULD HELP IF OUR OLDER VICTORIANS WOULD GIVE IT A CHANCE, INSTEAD OF SHOOTING IT DOWN. IF THEY HAVE BETTER SOLUTIONS, PLEASE VOICE THEM OR BETTER YET GET OUT IN OUR COMMUNITY AND DO SOMETHING POSITIVE. YOUR "TAX MONEY" IS NOT ENOUGH!! YOU MIGHT THINK IT IS BUT IT'S NOT. LIKE A FAMILY, IT NEEDS ATTENTION, GUIDANCE, AND LOVE, NOT JUST MONEY!! GIVE IT A CHANCE BEFORE YOU VOICE YOUR NEGATIVE OPINIONS!!!

  • HERE WE GO AGAIN, MORE NEGATIVE COMMENTS! WHY CAN'T Y'ALL GIVE THIS PROGRAM A CHANCE. IF Y'ALL HAVE POSITIVE SOLUTIONS FOR VICTORIA'S TROUBLED YOUTH, PLEASE DO SOMETHING!! OH I FORGOT, "YOUR TAX MONEY" IS PAYING FOR IT. I GUESS YOUR PROPERTY TAX ALSO PAID FOR FORMER SHERIFF RATCLIFF'S "FUNTIMES".

  • It would wonderful if this worked, however, I am sorry, but I do not see how this program is going to compete with peer pressure and the constant pressure to join a gang in some areas.
I wonder what form of measurement the sheriff department is using to determine the success of this program.
