Ranging Reporter update: Missing dad

Another warm Friday awaits us in the Crossroads as Father's Day looms on Sunday.

For me, the day is a bit melancholy having lost my dad some 19 years ago.

If someone is able to be kind and tough at the same time, that was dad. A coach, mostly baseball but he coached everything at some point in his career, I like to believe he helped mold many young people as he did his own kids.

Speaking of kids. My mother and father divorced when I was knee high to a grasshopper and all six children went to live with dad. He raised us for lots of years, until two of the girls - my two younger sisters - became teenagers and went to live with mom.

He made his mark in the small town of Adel, Ga., so much so that the high school baseball field was named in his honor after his death.

So, my Father's Day plans will probably consist of finding a baseball game on television and missing my baseball coach. My dad.

What are your Father's Day plans? We'd like to know. I'll be at Halepaska's Bakery until 9 a.m., then at the Kountry Bakery in Hallettsville until 11. Stop by and let me know what's up with pop.

See you soon.
