Whataburger will offer free Breakfast on a Bun sandwiches from 7 to 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The event is part of the Whataburger Serves program, which aims to boost employee morale and teamwork while increasing customer appreciation and community events, according to a Whataburger news release.

It's difficult to determine how many sandwiches will go out locally, said Melissa Villarreal, Whataburger's area manager. Some managers predict they'll give out 200 or 300 breakfasts, but it depends on the location.

Restaurants made preparations for the giveaway event.

Each site will add five additional employees to meet the demand, Villarreal said, and they placed larger-than-usual orders last week to ensure they had the necessary supplies.

The Breakfast on a Bun includes egg, choice of bacon or pork sausage and a slice of American cheese, according to the news release. It is also available "ranchero style," with salsa and jalapenos, at no additional charge.

"We're pretty much ready," Villarreal said. "Now, we're just waiting for customers to come in and enjoy their free breakfasts."

The sandwiches are one per customer and are available for dine-in, carry-out and drive-through. Customers must be present to receive the free breakfast.

Whataburger plans to host similar events in the coming months, Villarreal said.

"We're basically giving back to the community," she said.
